Robert's obituary

Robert Ellis Sergent (70), of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on March 15, 2026.

He was a devoted father and husband. His greatest pride came not from his career, titles, or accomplishments, but from the relationships he had with friends and family. He loved his family wholeheartedly, offering guidance, support, and most of all, laughter through every chapter. His humor and steady, loving presence shaped the lives of those who knew him best. His latest joy and pride came from spending time with his grandchildren who called him Paw Paw.

A certified chief executive, he enjoyed a respected career grounded in professionalism, hospitality, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. He managed private clubs in Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Ohio, always leaving each organization better than he found them. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome, combining his deep knowledge of the industry with a natural ease and a sense of humor that brought levity to moments when it was needed most. He always led with integrity and treated people with genuine respect.

Above all, he loved Jesus. His faith guided his life. He loved Jesus with a steady, genuine devotion that shaped the way he treated people, the way he worked, and the way he showed up for his family, friends, and community. His humility and integrity flowed from his faith that anchored him through the many seasons of life. Every morning he opened his Bible, reading scripture with a consistency that shaped his outlook and grounded his spirit.

He is survived by wife Cynthia; his son Jon (and spouse Molly); and his grandchildren, Jack and Mattie. He was preceded in death by his parents John D. (2001) and Faye Tynkham (1956); his sister, Mary Margaret (1979); and his brother, John Wilson (1988).

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Saturday April 11, 2026 at Lakeside Christian Church, Lakeside Park, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 10am to 11:30a and the service will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association in his honor.

He leaves behind a legacy defined by kindness, dedication, and the joy he brought to others — a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
