Robert's obituary
Bob Sechrist, age 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away on 9/13/18 in Olympia, WA.
He was born on April 18, 1928 in Garrettsville OH to Jacob Stuart Sechrist and Thelma Rice Sechrist, the second of 4 boys.
They grew up on a dairy farm and the brothers enjoyed helping on the farm and playing sports. Bob played football, baseball and ran track in High School. He played football at Hiram College, which he attended from 1946-48. He was in the army for several years and then worked for a brief time as a park ranger on Mt Rainier, which he loved. He then attended Colorado State University and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Wood Technology. He finished his education at Duke University with an MS in Industrial Engineering. He worked at the Singer Company Headquarters in New York and was then transferred to the plant in Germany in a Management Training Program, where he met Sigrid Feiden in 1960. They married May 11, 1962 in the Baroque Church in Springiersbach. They moved to New Jersey where their first child, Mark Feiden Sechrist was born in 1963. In 1964 Bob was transferred back to Karlsruhe, Germany to the Singer Factory for 4 years, where their daughter Nicole Barbara Sechrist was born. It was a happy time, close to family with many happy memories of spending time with his mother and father in-law in the Mosel Valley, traveling throughout Germany and surrounding countries such as Holland, Switzerland, Austria, France and Italy. They settled in Danville California in 1968, where Bob continued to work for Singer and then as auditor for TUV Essen.
In 1999, they moved from Danville to their vacation home in Lakeport, CA for 5 years. In 2004 they moved to Olympia WA to be closer to family. Bob enjoyed spending time with his 4 grandchildren, cheering them on at their sporting events and playing ball with them. He continued to work into his late 70’s as an Auditor for Quality Systems and enjoyed working, reading, listening to classical music, spending time in the outdoors, walking his dog and spending time with family into his later years.
Bob was always kind and generous to all he met. He had a wonderful light-hearted sense of humor. He was beloved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. He was a committed Catholic who loved and followed Jesus. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 13, 2018 at the age of 90.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Sigrid, children Mark of Phoenix AZ, daughter Nicole of Olympia WA and son-in-law Dave, grandchildren Nick, Luke, Matthew and Sophia, brothers Dick, Paul (and his wife Pat) and Tom, and many nieces and nephews.
