Robert's obituary
Robert (Bob) Burnett of Anderson, California, passed away unexpectedly on October 3rd, 2021. He was 73.
Bob was born in McCloud, CA and at a young age his parents and sister Rona moved to Crockett, CA. where he grew up and graduated from John Swett High School in 1966.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene "Renie", son Rob, daughter-in-law Rachel, grandsons Brandon, Blake and Bryce, sisters Rona Clark and Lynette Schwartz and brother Harold Burnett and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Blanche Burnett.
In 1967, Bob was inducted into the United States Army and served his country for 2 years, including a year in Vietnam. After his service in the army was over, he resumed his job at C&H Sugar Refinery in Crockett. While at C&H, Bob served his electrician apprenticeship as Inside Wireman.
Bob later joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 551 and for over 30 years he worked on many large commercial and industrial jobs.
A special achievement for Bob was learning to fly, and he loved it. He became quite proficient flying several different kinds of light planes and enjoyed doing aerobatics, flying over his home and entertaining his wife and son with loops and rolls. He enjoyed attending air shows whenever possible and was always thrilled to see the vintage WWII warplanes.
Bob was a member of the Crockett-Carquinez Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He was a member of the American Legion, Chula Post 92, McCloud.
In his lifetime, Bob had many interests and accomplishments. He enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball and football. Hunting and fishing, coaching Little League and playing guitar were some happy hobbies. He enjoyed farming with his cousin Bill and operating big machinery.
However, Bob's most enjoyable times were spending time with family. He always looked forward to anything that involved being together with family and friends, whether it was a fun reunion or stacking hay or building a barn or houseboating. He especially enjoyed his grandsons, watching them play sports and teaching them how to use tools and do repairs.
Bob was incredibly adept at fixing things; whether they broke on their own or whether his wife and her horses broke them.
In 2019, Bob joined Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, an amazing program serving disabled military service personnel. PHWFF volunteers supplied Bob with instruction and the gear to learn about fly fishing and he enjoyed it immensely.
Bob loved to laugh and joke and tease and sing. He had a quick wit and an incredible memory of people and past events and experiences. He will and rightly be missed by many.
If desired, any contributions would be appreciated to be made to PHWFF or a charitable organization of your choice.
