Bob's obituary

Robert (Bob) Clarke Rowe, a longtime resident of Dawson Creek, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18th, 2026 at Rotary Manor at the age of 93.

Bob was born on June 15th, 1932, in Sherbrooke, Quebec to Ada Bishop Rowe and Clarke Rowe. When he was 18 months old, his family moved west to Dawson Creek, B.C., where Bob spent nearly his entire life, other than a brief year in Toronto, Ontario. He married his wife Lucy on December 21st, 1955.

Bob worked in the trucking industry for 53 years, beginning at just 16 years old with British Yukon Navigation. Known for his strong work ethic and management skills, Bob gave his all to every position he held. He spent a year in Toronto attending CN Teletype school before returning to Dawson Creek to work for Northern Freightways, first in the billing office and later as a dispatcher overseeing 46 trucks. Then he spent 18 years working for Fred Loucks Trucking and CP Transport in Management.

In 1975 he began working for the B.C. government at the Weigh Scales and later with the Motor Carrier Commission. He was very smart and had a remarkable memory for numbers, able to recall truck numbers and details going back to 1957. He loved telling stories about the trucks and the people connected to them.

When he retired from the government, Bob continued to work, driving the mail truck to Prince George, the milk truck to local dairy farmers and back to the Dawson Creek Dairy Plant and then as a rental car porter for Avis. He always said he liked “four wheels on the ground” and he logged countless miles over his lifetime.

Bob loved his family deeply, always wanting and hoping the best for them. He was married to his soul mate, Lucy for 69 years. He loved to play cards, especially Bridge, Canasta, Crib and Rummy. He and Lucy camped every summer for 57 years, and as much as Bob enjoyed his work, he lived for weekends spent camping with friends and family. Together Bob and Lucy travelled extensively including trips to Alaska, The Maritimes, Europe, Cuba, Mexico, Arizona, Las Vegas, Pennsylvania, Montana and Texas. Bob also loved putting together jigsaw puzzles, often taking on 1500 pieces puzzles. He was a member of the Elks for over 50 years and served as Secretary for many years and President.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Grace Rowe; daughter Cathy Louise Jeannotte, mother Ada Frances Rowe; father Clarke Rowe; brother Glen Rowe; and brother Blaine Rowe.

Bob is survived by daughters Shelly Ann (Carl) Dahlen, and Cristy Dawn (Tom) Jensen; grandchildren Layce Alexandria (Mitch) Regehr, Carl Elling (Carmen) Dahlen, Myles Robert (Sarah) Jeannotte, Trevor Daniel Dahlen, Carter Thomas (Abby) Jensen, Brady Alan Jensen, Dillon Travis Jensen, and Taylor Nicole Jensen; 7 great grandchildren; brother Gordie (Donna) Rowe; along with nieces and nephews.
