robert's obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert "Bobby" Pence, a beloved father, grandparent, and friend, on February 20, 2025. Born on April 17, 1972, Bobby touched many lives with his bubbly, inviting, caring, compassionate, and humorous personality. Regularly seen pulling pranks on family members in public places or joking around, his light-hearted spirit made him an enduring figure in the lives of those he encountered.

Bobby is survived by his daughters Ashley Pence, sons David Kincer, step-son Brandon Hughes, grandchildren Ashton Kincer, Zoey Kincer, Joanna Kincer, cousin Todd Tolbert, and ex-wife Bessie Pence. He now joins in rest his parents, Mary and Walton Pence, and son, Joe Kincer.

A man of diverse interests and talents, Bobby loved car painting and woodworking. He was a fan of the Cowboys and enjoyed watching performances at the Grand ol opry. Bobby had a keen taste for Spaghetti, Lasagna, Cabbage rolls, Mcdoubles, and refreshing beverages like Mountain Dew, RC cola, Wild Turkey 101, and Budweiser. Fond of the color Ford Emblem Blue, his favorite shows included Sopranos, Family guy, and Gas Monkey Garage, and he spent countless hours lost in the pages of the Bible.

His favorite music was George Jones's Grand Tour and I Don't Need Your Rocking Chair. Yet, beyond his cheer and energy, Bobby's kindness and generosity were his most recognizable traits. His legacy of the golden heart and knowledge about mechanics shall remain alive in our hearts.

An active member of the Heritage Church and a long-standing attendee at the Moose Lodge since 1987, Bobby was passionate about creating a positive impact within his community. His dedication towards common variable immune deficiency research is a testament to his altruistic and compassionate nature.

Bobby lived life to the fullest, taking delight in working on vehicles and farm equipment. He loved spending time with his daughter, doing just about anything. His favorite local spot was Parrott, Virginia, and he cherished vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Above all, Bobby believed in being a good, honest person with the best intentions, regardless of the costs or circumstances. This principle guided him through life and influenced his professional career at VDOT and the way he took care of and provided for his loved ones. His greatest accomplishment, in his eyes, was being a caring and supportive father to his daughter, Ashley.

Bobby will be deeply missed, but his enduring spirit, love, and wisdom will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
