Robert's obituary

Robert Pena III, born October 25th, 1968, passed away February 21st, 2019 in Gillette, WY. Robert was born to Ellen and Robert Pena, Jr in Bellflower, CA. Robert’s family relocated to Washington State in 1975 and lived in Puyallup, WA. In 1981 Robert joined the Civil Air Patrol, the Auxiliary of the US Airforce as a cadet. He made many life-long friends who adored him deeply. Many of Robert’s Civil Air Patrol friends remained active in his life until his passing.
Robert’s parents relocated back to California in 1987. Robert joined the US Army in 1988 and attended basic training at Ft. McClellan, AL as a Military Policeman. He served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991 and remained active in the Army reserve until 1997 achieving the rank of Specialist, E-4.
Robert was also active in civilian law enforcement. He graduated from Fullerton College Police Academy in 1995 and served as an extradition deputy until 1998. Robert previously worked in general and commercial aviation fueling and ground handling and eventually his experiences earned him the title of Supervisor of Aircraft Fueling at Los Angeles International Airport, employed by Aircraft Service International Group until 2005.
Robert’s father worked as a local and over the road truck driver during his childhood and Robert found himself enrolled at Schneider National Training Academy for truck driving in 2006. Robert worked as a company driver and independent contractor in the trucking industry. During his 13-year career in trucking, Robert enjoyed 9 of those years with his K9 “son” named Bruce Pena, a Manchester Terrier. Robert loved Bruce with all the love and affection a person could have for a dog. When Bruce passed away in 2015 Robert was devastated beyond repair; a hole had been torn in his heart and he knew they would be reunited one day in heaven. Robert loved Bruce so much he named his trucking company Rocketdog Express in honor of his K9 son.
Robert’s many passions included flying radio-controlled model airplanes, being a proud homeowner, hiking, camping, riding horses and spending time with his loving family. Robert was exceptionally proud of attending Harvard and Arizona State University for Social Sciences and considered himself a life-long learner.
Robert leaves a legacy of lasting memories with friends and family who will deeply miss his loving nature and beautiful brown eyes.
Robert is survived by his Father Robert Pena, Jr, Sisters Angela Pena and Christine Desgranges; was preceded in death by his K9 Son, Bruce Pena, mother, Ellen Arville Pena, nephew, Jason Pena, aunt Charlene Scott, maternal grandparents Ruby and Edgar Scott and paternal grandparents Robert, Sr and Carmen Pena.
