Personal note from Erin Newbury

There once was a man who was stuck in a shell
It was known to him as his personal hell.
It started one day as just a little pain
But it spread and it crept right up near his brain
As it spread it hardened from mid-back to shoulder
Until the man was curved round like a boulder
His family didn't mind and their love still remained
His children and grandchildren knew inside he was the same.
Though others might question or look the other way
This shell grew heavier and heavier each day
Even breathing was hard, it was harder to walk
But one thing he could do was sit down and talk
He spoke of the things he once could do
Of hunting and fishing and tying his shoes
Of camping, running and reaching up high
Of turning his neck, looking up at the sky
His heart to heart talks he would willingly share
With all who would listen and anyone who cared
Each person you see as you go about your day
Has a story to tell or something to say
Don’t just pass by them and assume that you know
About their story or how they’ve had to grow
For like this man stuck in his shell of stone
Not one of us here really wants to be alone
Go play while you’re young and run while you’re able
While your days are long and you are strong and stable
But take a few moments to ponder and pray for those whose lives are a struggle each day.
If you still have a chance when loved ones are near
Pull up a stone to sit with those you hold dear
For they may not still run, play or walk
But they can all listen and enjoy a good talk.

For a man enduring unimaginable pain and suffering each day he was incredibly caring, thoughtful and loving. Bob had an amazing sense of humor and loved nothing better than to bring a smile to anyone’s face, no matter how his own day was going. Bob was a miracle. He was sustained by the love …
