Tony's obituary
Robert “Tony” Tudor Neel, Jr. passed away on February 13, 2024, at the age of 73 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Born on January 13, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee. Tony was a beloved member of his family and community.
Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Brunner Neel, his father, Robert Tudor Neel Sr., both of Memphis, Tennessee, and his brother, Joe Neel, of Breckenridge Colorado.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Carol Neel. His son Jeb Neel, and his wife Samantha, along with his granddaughters Adrienne and Josephine Neel, all residing in Rogers, Arkansas. He is also survived by his daughter, Callie Neel Gibson, and her husband Worth, residing in Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by his Step-son Jerome Cianciola, and his wife Brittly, along with his Grandchildren Caroline, Mary Frances, Mae, Grayson, Annalise, Oliver, and Juliette Cianciola, all residing in Memphis, Tennessee. Also, his Step-daughter Laura Liebenrood, and her husband Trey, along with his grandchildren Jacob and Ali Howard, and Savannah and Jake Liebenrood, all of Collierville, Tennessee.
Tony's brother, Dr. Michael Neel, and his wife Liz, along with his beloved niece Elizabeth Ann and nephew Dr. Robert Neel III and his wife Margaret, all from Memphis, Tennessee. Additionally, he leaves behind sister in law Kathy Neel and nieces and nephews, Emily her husband Matt, Patrick, and Rosemary, all residing in Colorado.
As a child Tony spent many summers in Marked Tree, Arkansas. He then graduated high school in Memphis, Tennessee. He pursued his higher education at the University of Arkansas, earning a bachelor's degree. While earning his degree he was as an active member of the Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Additionally, he completed The Graduate School of Banking at LSU, further enhancing his professional knowledge.
Throughout his career, Tony made significant contributions to the banking industry. He began his professional journey at Union Planters Bank's Memphis correspondent bank department after college. He then worked at 1st National Bank in Paragould, Arkansas, followed by Worthen National Bank's correspondent bank department. Tony later joined Powell & Satterfield and then AG Edward's before concluding his career with Raymond James as a Senior Vice President of Investments.
Tony found solace and spiritual nourishment in his faith. He was a parishoner at Christ the King in Little Rock, Arkansas for many years, and more recently at St. John's Catholic Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas where he and Carol found a sense of community and peace. He cherished his annual mens retreat at Manresa House of Retreats in Convent, Louisiana sharing his faith with his son, brother and father.
In his leisure time, Tony enjoyed pursuing his lifelong passion for duck hunting. He relished any opportunity to visit Cooper Lake, where he could immerse himself in the beauty of nature and the thrill of the hunt. He truly cherished spending time in nature during duck season. Tony's passion for hunting brought him immense joy throughout his life and was something he shared with his family and closest friends. Along with hunting, riding his tractor always put a smile on his face. He also loved spending time working on his vintage Corvette. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply and will be remembered for his creative story telling. He recently relocated to Hot Springs, Arkansas and planned to retire there. He loved spending time at Oaklawn. His grandchildren all adored their time on the Lake with their "Gramps!" He loved sharing and enjoying the tranquility of the lake from his back porch.
Tony Neel will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy as a devoted family man, accomplished professional, and passionate outdoorsman will be cherished forever. May his soul find eternal peace.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to The Madonna Learning Center of Memphis, Tennessee, Manresa House of Retreats of Convent, Louisiana or Big Paws of the Ozarks Dog Rescue, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
