Bob's obituary
Robert “Bob” Nappa passed away on Friday, December 10 after a long battle with cancer. He was 70 years old.
Bob was born in Syracuse NY, in 1951. He is pre-deceased by his father Neil Nappa, his grandparents Anna Nappa and Carmen Nappa, and his nephew Alex Alciati. He leaves behind his mother Anne Nappa, his sister Diane Nappa (Jim Shea), his two daughters Kimberly Nappa and Marissa Nappa, and his nieces Lauren Alciati (Devon Rothman) and Koryn Madigan.
Bob grew up in Syracuse with his younger sister, Diane. They spent much of their childhood inseparable. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy, being stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois, as well as San Diego, California.
After growing up in Syracuse, and after leaving the Navy, he moved to New Port Richey FL in the 80s, and stayed through the early 90’s. During this time, both of his daughters were born. Bob raised his daughters alone from the time they were young, and they truly meant the world to him. Bob dedicated much of his life to the service of others. When he first resided in Florida, he committed his free time to being a Christian pastor, opening his home to other people of faith, many being homeless.
Bob also spent several decades volunteering as a firefighter in upstate NY. Being a firefighter meant a great deal to him, and he dedicated much of his free time to serving and protecting his community. Many of his lifelong friends came from his time as a firefighter.
Bob started his own tile and flooring business in the 70s, running it mostly in upstate NY for about forty years before retiring and moving back to Florida, this time to Englewood. He would live out the rest of his life on his houseboat. It was his lifelong dream to live on the water.
Bob was a loving father, brother, son, and friend. We will miss his incredible sense of humor and eccentricities dearly.
A military memorial service will be held on April 8th, at 1:30pm at Sarasota National Cemetery 9810 State Road 72 Sarasota, FL 34241. We also plan to have a celebration of life gathering in the Catskill/Leeds area in the Spring. We will update social media as well as this page once we have an exact date.
We would like to invite you all to share any photos or fond memories of Bob below using the "share a memory" button, to help us celebrate his life.
Love, the Nappa Family
