Bob's obituary

Robert "Bob" Mackin Haworth

Winter Haven, Florida – Robert "Bob" Mackin Haworth, 81, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on April 10, 2025. Born on March 23, 1944, in Washington, D.C., to Jean and Robert Haworth. Bob lived a life rich in family, service, and connection.

Bob grew up in Euclid, Ohio, graduating from Euclid High School in 1962 before attending Bowling Green State College. He married his high school sweetheart, Susanne Mary, and soon after, in 1963, enlisted in the United States Air Force. Based at L.G. Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts. Bob and Susanne began their family with the arrival of their first daughter, Holly Lee, in August 1964. The birth of their second daughter, Amanda Lynn, in August 1966, providentially led to the revocation of his orders to Thailand. He continued his service at Hanscom Field until February 1967, when he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant, remaining in the Reserves until 1969.

In 1967, Bob and his family relocated to Florida, where he began a distinguished career with Eastern Airlines. Starting as a Job Control Analyst, he skillfully managed multi-departmental job productions. His dedication led to a promotion in 1970 to Senior Job Control Analyst, where he oversaw complex administrative processes. During this time, his third daughter, Jennifer Anne, was born in February 1971. In 1984, after his divorce from Susanne, he met Diane, whom he married on January 18, 1986. Bob lovingly embraced his role as a stepfather to Diane's young children, James Emerson and Kristin. Together, they formed a blended family of five children, who were truly the loves of his life. He instilled in them a passion for reading, sports, and the enduring values of family and faith. Bob's career at Eastern Airlines evolved, with his transition to Flight Scheduling as a Senior Analyst in 1985, where he managed operational flight execution until the airline's closure in 1991.

Anticipating Eastern Airlines' closure, Bob proactively joined System One in 1988 as an Analyst, coordinating cable and equipment destinations for travel agencies, a role he enjoyed until 1995. He then transitioned to EDS in 1996 as a Technical Analyst, and later to Amadeus in 2002 as a Production Coordinator, supporting travel agencies with software accommodations until his retirement in 2009.

Retirement ushered in a new chapter, initially centered around his passion for golf. From 2010 to 2014, Bob worked as a starter at Doral Country Club, cherishing the golf privileges and especially his role as a "PATRON" during exclusive tournaments. He relished meeting golfing legends like Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, and Phil Mickelson, with a particularly fond memory of Phil shaking his grandson's hand during a mid-tournament break.

In September 2014, Bob moved to Winter Haven, Florida, and joined the Disney Hollywood Studios team as a Team Greeter. Here, he connected with guests from around the globe, particularly enjoying interactions with children and learning about diverse cultures. His favorite part of the day was giving a "Mickey high FOUR" to departing guests, a gesture that brought immense joy to his heart.

Bob "hung up his Mickey ears" for his final retirement in September 2022, dedicating his time to family and friends. He loved watching sports, engaging in lively discussions about game outcomes, and was a devoted fan of the Indians, Browns, Dolphins, and Chiefs. (The winners were his favorite.) His musical heart belonged to Barbra Streisand, though he developed a recent fondness for Taylor Swift due to her generosity and association with Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs.

________________________________________

Throughout his life, Bob was a devout man of faith. He was a long-time member and Director of Grace Lutheran Church in Miami Springs, Florida, where he received the Good Samaritan Award for his selfless dedication to helping those in need. He was active in Via De Cristo, participated in Men's Bible Study, coached Little League, and successfully organized and launched the Churches of Miami Springs Softball Leagues. After moving to Winter Haven, he attended Lamb of God Lutheran Church and, due to illness after COVID, committed to online worship.

Bob is survived by his beloved family: Diane, Holly, Jennifer, James Emerson, Kristin, and their families, including his cherished grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind his brother, Bill; his Best Friend, Gil; various dear friends; his Disney Team Members; his Grace Church family; and his beloved dogs, CiCi and Joy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 254 Curtiss Parkway, Miami Springs, Florida, 33166.
