Lee's obituary
Robert “Lee” Leroy Johnson Jr., 73, of Kemah, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 13, 1950, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Lee was a beloved member of our community, known for his unwavering dedication and bravery.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 15 years, Wendi Johnson; daughters, Beth Ann Castro and Glynn Castro, Jill Williams and Steven Williams; sister, Barbara Dustin, stepdaughter, Jessica Pierce; stepson, Colby Long; grandchildren, Lucien Williams, Emma Castro, Gianna Castro, Cameron Pierce, and a host of many other family and friends. Lee is preceded in death by his first wife Gail Franks Johnson; brother, Kenneth Johnson and sister, Sandra Smith.
Lee proudly served our Country in the United States Army. Following his Army service, he joined the Air Force. After retiring from the military, Lee continued his commitment serving the community as a firefighter with the Houston Fire Department in 1971 and proudly served with honor for 35 years, retiring from Station 72 in 2006.
Throughout his career, he was known as a man of integrity who always stood his ground, his unwavering courage and dedication to saving lives. A fellow fireman once said the City of Houston is a better place because of Lee.
Beyond his professional achievements, Lee was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Lee enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Grandpa” and “Pop Lee”.
Lee was known for his love of cooking for the fire department and for his family and friends. Post retirement, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching nascar races, going to the casinos and Caribbean vacations.
Lee’s legacy of bravery, kindness, and dedication will forever be remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, Lee, your spirit will always be with us.
The visitation will take place at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 North Main St., Pearland, Texas on August 25 ,2024 from 4-7pm.
The funeral service will be held at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 North Main St., Pearland, Texas on August 26th at 10am. Graveside service and reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude’s Research Center in Lee’s honor.
Directly following the service, a celebration of Robert “Lee” Johnson's life will be held on at the Johnson Family’s house located at 1806 Kemah Oaks Drive Kemah, Texas 77565. Friends and family are invited to join us in honoring his memory and sharing stories of the profound impact he had on our lives.
