Bob's obituary

Robert (“Bob”) Lee Snyder, 72, of Catasauqua, PA, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on October 13, 1950, to parents Elizabeth and Lee, Bob was raised in Bethlehem, PA, the eldest of 4 children. Upon graduating from Freedom High School, he attended Penn State University, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology.

While working for trucking company, Wilson Freight, Bob met his longtime wife, Sheila, via mutual friends in 1973. Their relationship blossomed and they were married in July 1975. After a year of apartment living in Trexlertown, PA, the young couple relocated to a home in Catasauqua. It was there that they welcomed their only child, a son, Jayson in the fall of 1978.

Bob would work for a variety of trucking companies before changing industries when he took a position with Coca-Cola of the Lehigh Valley in 1987. During his tenure at Coke, the Snyder family would again make a move, staying in Catasauqua but transitioning into a single-family home a few blocks away. After a decade in the soft drink business, Bob shifted to a merchandising position with the marketing firm, Fitzwater. Bob was a stalwart in this line of work, despite the company changing their letterhead to Weaver and eventually Acosta. He eventually retired in 2020 after a long and distinguished run in the field of sales and marketing.

In retirement, Bob focused on his family. His granddaughters, Lilian and Julia, were his pride and joy. He was acutely involved with homeschooling the grandkids during the pandemic, and he took great pride in their successes. Family vacations were the cornerstone of Bob’s calendar, and making memories with his loved ones was always paramount. He had a wry wit that made him the toast of any family gathering.

In addition to the family, Bob loved his local sports. His fervent support of the Phillies, Eagles, and Nittany Lions was a passion that he insistently passed down through the generations. In 2018, surrounded by family, Bob beamed watching the Philadelphia Eagles parade down Broad Street with their first-ever Lombardi trophy.

Bob also loved fantasy sports, a pastime he shared with his son. It was not at all uncommon for discussions about fantasy podcasts, potential trades, or player values to dominate the discourse of family functions. In fact, Jayson is a writer for a popular fantasy outlet, and that too was a great source of pride for Bob.

Throughout their lives together, Bob cherished his wife, Sheila. Whether the challenge was critical illness or locating the best bargain on groceries, the duo would routinely put their heads together and out-scheme seemingly any obstacle. After 48 years of marriage, it is difficult to assess where one person ends and the other begins. Their obvious love for each other was the seed that begat their treasured family.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Lee. He is survived by his wife; Sheila Snyder, son; Jayson Snyder, daughter-in-law; Emily Snyder, and granddaughters; Lilian and Julia Snyder. Additionally, Bob is survived by his siblings (brother; William Snyder, sister; Nancy Scanlan, and brother; John Snyder).

Adamant that funerals were too sad and not consistent with how he wished to be remembered, Bob has instead requested a celebration of life event. Details are not yet available for this occasion but will be published upon determination. Please check back at the Events tab for updates as they become available.
