Robert Joseph Montgomery, age 74, of Plainfield IN passed away at his home in the early hours of December 2, 2023. His battle against ALS, Pulmonary Fibrosis and Myasthenia Gravis was hard fought. He was born November 8, 1949 to Betty Jean (Brooks) and Raymond Montgomery. He was a proud graduate of both Cathedral High School and Purdue University, where he obtained his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1972. As a Boilermaker through and through, Bob always enjoyed watching them play any chance he got, even though he knew it often ended in heartache. Bob began his career at PSI, bringing him to Plainfield, where he called home for the last 51 years. After obtaining his MBA at IUPUI, he enjoyed a successful career in sales and marketing, where he closed nearly $750 million in contracts, a number he was very proud of. The majority of his career was spent working with Geographical Information Systems at Mid States Engineering (MSE). During his 16 years at MSE, he had many colleagues that became lifelong friends. He enjoyed mentoring others in his sales techniques throughout his career and even beyond his retirement.  He spent many years as a member and Sunday School teacher at Bethel Church of the General Baptist and more recently became a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church. Bob married Nancy on November 11, 2011. His marriage to Nancy grew his family by 3 children and 8 grandchildren. In his retirement, Bob enjoyed traveling with Nancy while on a quest to discover unique, new places. He had an endless supply of bad dad jokes (told over and over again), and loved wowing others with magic card tricks that he practiced for hours to perfect. He was a proud dad who took every opportunity he got to brag on his children. He was Papa Bob to 15 grandkids. He is survived by his wife Nancy Montgomery, his 4 children Lisa (Jeff) Cunningham, Ryan (Amanda) Montgomery, Rebekah (Jeff) Rieser, and Benjamin (Taelor) Montgomery, his grandchildren Lauren and Jacob Cunningham, Addy Walker, Macy and Dax Montgomery, and Sophia and Samuel Rieser, and his siblings Mark Montgomery, Cheryl (Gary) Gray, Paul Montgomery, , Karen (Rick) Jacobs, John (Sharon) Montgomery and David (Julie) Montgomery, brother in law Bob Shotts, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Ray Montgomery, mother Betty Jean Swift, brother Tom Montgomery, sister Mary Shotts, brother in law Chuck Rockey, and 1 niece.

There will be a celebration of life, "A Final Evening with Bob" from 6:30-10:00pm on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Memories Wedding and Event Barn at 2588 US 40 Clayton, IN .  There will be a calling on Saturday December 9, 2023 from 1:00-2:00pm and a service at 2:00pm at the Plainfield United Methodist Church at 600 Simmons St. Plainfield, IN.
