Robert's obituary

Robert Louis “Bobby” Ingram entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
Bobby was born in Halifax County, N.C. on December 4, 1940 to the late Nello and Marian Ingram. Upon the death of his mother, Bobby was raised by his loving Grandmother Betty “Ma Bet” Lane in Enfield, N.C. Bob- by was educated in the Halifax County Public School Systems, until he later moved to Washington, D.C. in the 1960s.

Once in Washington, D.C., he was employed by Crown Supply Co., in Springfield, Virginia. Bobby and his older brother Nello were the owners of Nello’s Liquor (2 locations) one on 7th and O St., NW and the other on Eastern Avenue, NE, in Washington, D.C. He was later employed by DC Public Library, as a Special Police Officer Ser- geant at Martin Luther King, Jr. Library until his retirement in 1998. He received numerous heroic awards while employed at Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.

Bobby enjoyed his family and watching tv, mostly Wheel of For- tune, Jeopardy and 60 Minutes. He had a heart of gold, a gentle smile and was a man of few words. “Mr. Bobby”, as the neighbors called him, loved sitting on the front porch where he spoke to any and everyone walking by, along with his famous smile. Bobby was not a dancer, but “Let’s Get It On”, by Marvin Gaye, could always get him to the floor for his two-step.

Bobby was baptized at First Rising Mount Zion Church in Wash- ington, D.C., after accompanying his sister Elizabeth one Sunday.

Bobby was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Jordan, and two brothers, Nello Ingram and Chester Ingram.

Bobby leaves loving memories to cherish to his partner and longtime companion, Judith Paige; four daughters, Angela In- gram-Marshall (Dwayne) of Fort Washington, MD, Yolanda Ingram-Pittman (Michael) of Bowie, MD, Lawanda Hunt- er-Smith(Texas), and Darnetta Paige of Washington, DC; one step-son, Antoine Paige of Washington, DC; one sister-in-law, Ora Lee Ingram of Fort Washington, MD; ten grandchildren, Patrice Ingram-Abdullah (Halim), Maurice, Shuanique, Tiara, Milah, Kayla, Dana, Iyana, Darius, Dajah; five great-grandchildren, Chase, Daron, Xavion, Milan and DeAndre; close friends, Ezell Whitaker, Sgt. Cunningham and Lt. Taylor; special nephew, Mal- colm Jordan; favorite niece Melinda Thornton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
