I worked with Robert during his time at Horace Mann.  While I agree with Nancy that he could be very blunt, I grew to appreciate his ability to be direct and I learned a great many things from him about being an actuary.  While I didn't always agree with him and if I'm honest, I didn't always do everything right, but he was always willing to help any time I had a question.

I am incredibly sorry for your loss.

Julie Hall (formerly Anderson),  Perr&Knight

My staff and I worked with Robert over many years, when he reviewed rate filings we submitted as consultants.  Although we were often on opposite sides of issues, Robert found ways to work together and figure out creative solutions.  He could be pretty blunt, but he gave rock-solid advice and always knew more than anyone else. He should get a great deal of credit for helping the state's insurance market survive its political ups and downs.

I am so sorry to hear of Robert's passing, and hope he got to enjoy plenty of time with his family and grandchildren even though his retirement didn't last long enough. My colleagues and I truly liked and esteemed Robert, and we will miss him very much.

With deepest condolences,

Nancy Watkins, Milliman San Francisco

Copan Ruinas, Honduras
I'll always remember when my dad took me to visit the Mayan ruins in Copan, Honduras. It was an amazing experience, that gave me a chance to learn about my mom's heritage and it was an unforgettable bonding experience with my dad.
