Robert's obituary
Robert Fairley, a devoted father, grandfather, and lifelong servant to his family, faith, and community, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the age of 73. He was surrounded by his loved ones and left this world in the same way he lived in it—with quiet dignity, unwavering strength, and a heart full of grace.
Born on November 2, 1952, in Birmingham, Alabama, Robert was the son of Charles and Etta Fairley. A graduate of Alabama A&M University, he dedicated more than three decades to a successful career in mechanical engineering. Robert's work helped to improve infrastructure across the state, but his true legacy lies in the lives he touched through his love, faith, and wisdom.
A longtime member and deacon of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Robert was known for his deep spiritual conviction, humble service, and commitment to mentoring others. He gave freely of his time, offering words of encouragement and acts of kindness that uplifted his community.
Robert was a proud and loving father to his children: Danielle Fairley, Ronald Wilson, Denise Wilson, Eric Fairley, and Stephanie Wilson.
He was a devoted grandfather to: Marqus Fairley, Alyssa Johnson, Brandon Breland, Jazmine Fairley, Tyler Johnson, Naomi Fairley, Kaden Breland, and Sierra Johnson. He shared a particularly special bond with his grandson Marqus, whom he helped raise with patience, strength, and unconditional love.
He is also survived by his beloved sister, Patricia Greene, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Angela Fairley, and his parents, Charles and Etta Fairley.
A Homegoing Celebration will take place on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Robert’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Mount Zion Scholarship Fund.
Robert Fairley leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, humility, and service. He will be missed deeply and remembered always.
