I have known the Fields family for over 20 years. I met their son Andrew in High School and we became best friends very quickly. I spent many evenings at the Fields home having dinner, playing games and talking about every day life things. Robert was like a father to me and I had a lot of respect for him. I was sad to hear of his diagnosis and while I was expecting his passing this year, it came a little more suddenly than I expected. I will miss his smile and his knowledge of wine, his love for his family and sense of humor. My family and I will miss you Robert. Just know you have left behind the most loving and wonder wife and two amazing kids. Rest in Peace.....
With my wife Tiphaine, I have known Robert for only a decade. I say “only” because I realize that this was not nearly enough. Our shared space went from Studio Blue in 2015 to the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra more recently. We’ve had many hours of intense, cheerful, and profound discussions on excessively widespread set of topics and themes: from philosophy to music, from international law to film, from medicine to literature, from geopolitics to local cuisine, from UN peace keeping to education, from national politics to family. I better stop, as the list could go on and on. Robert will remain a strong reminder of what a wonderful, interesting, curious and smart person is like. If I had a task to describe Robert in a shortest formulation I would say: Robert was a serious man!

Vicky and I were so sorry to hear of Robert's passing.  He was an enjoyable hiking and backpacking buddy back in the day, with memorable shared adventures in Hells Canyon, Eagle Creek in the gorge, and Looking Glass Lake on Mt. Adams, among other spots.   He was always interested in his surroundings, both natural and human, and often amused us with his little side jaunts, which came to be known as Fields Trips.  We also have great memories of the Roch Craford Memorial Champagne Brunch, which he and Tina graciously hosted a few times.  We are so glad to have known Robert and offer our heartfelt condolences to Tina and the Fields family.
