Played in a band, Century, with Bob back in the '80s. We had a lot of fun, and I enjoyed my time in the band. Bob was very generous with me, a poor college student at the time. He'd spring for steak bombs at Lena's in Beverly (probably the best I've ever had). Now I settle for D'Angelo, which also has good subs....but not quite as good as Lena's. Anyway, I was saddened to hear the news. I was searching the web, trying to find some pics or vids of the band, and ended up here. Bob was an awesome sax player, had come a long way on keys as well, and knew a lot of theory. I normally played bass in Century, but would break out the trombone for a couple of numbers and accompany Bob, who was on the sax. We did a killer brass-heavy rendition of Chi Coltrane's "Thunder and Lightning." It was a great arrangement, thanks to Bob, and a real crowd-pleaser.
Been a lot of water under the bridge since then, and there have been a few changes with me. I got married and we have a wonderful son, who is in college and is an accomplished musician. We have opportunities to play together, which are great. I'm normally a guitar player, and was playing bass in Century because they needed a bass player and the band was fun to be in. Right now, my son is a bass player and I'm back to being a guitarist, which is quite cool.
If there's anybody out there from the band days, and there's a way to contact me from here, please do! It would be great to reconnect after all these years. I know there are photos and videos of the band out there somewhere and I'd love to see them.
My sincere condolences to all of Bob's family. I do remember most of you (those from Beverly, anyway...). Thanks, Judy, for posting this. Otherwise, I'd never have known. Sure, it's not the best news to hear, but I'd rather know.
