Derrek Brown, age 35 of Rock Hill, SC, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 in Asheville, NC.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 13th at 1:00 pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Some of his ashes will be laid with his late grandparents. To grant Derrek's wishes, some of his cremains will be scattered at sea by his good friend John Watts, goddaughter Maria Watts, and step father Don, on his 36th birthday, May 12, 2023.

Derrek was born on May 12, 1987 in Lilburn, Ga. He attended Western Kentucky University and received a B.A Degree in Chemistry. He was a Lab Analyst III with Charlotte Water.

Derrek is proceeded by his grandparents John and Mercedes Brown, who he loved dearly. He leaves his mother and stepfather, Janet and Don Preston of Louisville, KY; twin sister and her husband, Natalie and Russel Gonzales, nephew and niece, Benjamin and Sofie Gonzales; uncle David, aunt Mary Kay, and nephews Brennen and Kyle; Goddaughters Maria and Caroline Watts.

Derrek also leaves his best friend John Watts and family, with whom he enjoyed yearly vacations and fishing trips to the Outer Banks, NC. Derrek will certainly be missed by many other friends and co-workers and who knew and loved him.
