Rodney Thomas
1994, Milwaukee, WI, USA
I worked with Bob for many years as a young design engineer in Milwaukee, WI and Knoxville, TN. Very many fond memories of his stories and experiences. Immensely interesting when he experimented with making tofu treat like chicken. But my proudest moments in life was talking to him about the understanding of engineering. He asked me the most arcane questions of describing arbitrary 3d shapes in a 2d medium. Didn't understand what he was asking at the time. He would just laugh and say you get it. But he gave me the biggest compliment of my life that I will forever hold on to. For many years my job was to make shop drawings of things he engineered. He told me, his job was to prove the impossible could work and my job was to prove it could be built. For a long time I'd be could dream it I could draw it for manufacturing. He taught me more in this world than I can ever put to words. He was and still is a truly inspiring man. And I speak about him to this day often.
