Black Rob's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert "Black Rob" Burns, who departed this earth on August 4, 2023. Robert was born on April 27, 1969, and left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege to know him.
Robert, better known as Black Rob, was a man of many passions. His love for the arts manifested itself in his appreciation of diverse genres of music, predominantly Hip-Hop, Rap, and R&B. If it had rhythm and a beat, Robert was moving to it with an infectious zeal that would compel those around him to join in. His love for adrenaline carried over to his film preferences, favoring anything action-packed, suspenseful, and even the scary stuff that captivated his interest.
He was a faithful supporter of the Los Angeles Lakers, and his competitive spirit was evident in his love for games. Robert was often found shooting dice, playing dominoes, or engaging in a game of basketball. But everybody knew they didn’t stand a chance at beating him at chess. His favorite exercise routine centered around his beloved bike, which he proudly referred to as "my bike," that followed him everywhere.
Described by those who knew him as fearless, loyal, gentle, courageous, trustworthy, sociable, intelligent, honest, adventurous, friendly, confident, thoughtful, generous, charming, versatile, and very energetic, Black Rob was a beacon of light in any room. His greatest lessons revolved around survival, as he had an uncanny ability to turn any situation into a teachable moment.
Robert's legacy is a tapestry of laughter, resilience, and unity. He had a unique talent for always bringing a smile to people's faces, always finding the brighter side of situations. His belief in family unity created a togetherness that will continue to hold strong.
Robert is survived by his loving mother, Shirley McJimson; cherished sister, Cherise Williams; his older brother Anthony Perry, devoted daughter, Tiana Burns; and his favorite niece, Sade Davis, his great nieces Mylov’ & MyJad’e Browne and his nephew Tyrone Armstrong… and let’s not forget “Rocky” Robert Carl Burns jr. (four legs but loved like his own) Rocky will be cared for by his mother and Robert’s forever spouse Tanya Sims. He was predeceased by his father, Ulysses Burns; grandmother, Jessie Smith; and uncle, Curtis Duckett. We find solace knowing that they now celebrate a joyous reunion.
A Celebration of Life for Black Rob was held at Lake Balboa on August 18, 2023, at 4:00 PM, “ 818 day” where loved ones gathered to commemorate his vibrant life and the legacy he leaves behind. His loss is deeply felt, the world seemed to have stopped in the wake of his departure. Robert will be truly missed, never forgotten, and always loved.
