Brad's obituary
Robert Bradford “Brad” Newman Jr. went to Sailor’s Heaven on February 24, 2022, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family.
Brad was born February 10, 1948, in Cambridge, MA to the late Mary and Robert Newman.
Brad is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Sue (née Drummey), daughter Emily and fiancé Rob, son Alex and wife Annie, son Robby, siblings Henry and Catherine, his large extended family, and loyal Labradoodle, Charlie. Brad also leaves behind the other love of his life, Molly B, his boat.
Brad was a devoted family man who loved nothing more than being out on the water, especially if fishing was involved. He was the life of the party who enjoyed bending the rules and was always the first to help a friend in need. He loved teaching his children, nieces, and nephews all he knew about boats, fishing, music, and DIY projects.
In addition to his love of the water, chocolate milk afficionado Brad enjoyed playing his Hammond B3 organ, slurping oysters, eating calamari, and telling inappropriate jokes. He was a member of Duxbury Yacht Club for 32 years and devoted many hours to the restoration of Bug and Gurnet Lights as a member of the Board of Directors for Project Gurnet & Bug Lights.
Brad’s family and friends will gather to celebrate his life later this year. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Project Gurnet & Bug Lights, Inc, via Venmo @Bug-Light, by check to P.O. Box 2167, Duxbury, MA 02331-2167, or directly through this site. In recent years Brad's main focus was on raising money for a retaining wall to prevent further erosion at Gurnet Light. Donations to Project Gurnet & Bug Light will make Brad's vision come to fruition.
Brad will be waiting for all of us on the other side with the boat gassed up, the bait and rods ready, and a Mount Gay & tonic in hand.
