Robert (Bob)'s obituary
On February 10, 2021, Robert (Bob) Frank Bremkamp passed away due to complications from diabetes at the age of 86. His father Richard (1891-1978) was a WW1 Veteran, and his mother Helen (1889-1981) was a Painter. Born January 7, 1935, Bob was the youngest of 6 siblings who affectionately called him Bobby. Surviving him are his sisters Jean (96 years old) and Dorothy (94 years old), and his brother, Dick (92 years old); he is preceded by his sister Mary Margret (1922-2019) and his brother Jim (1931-2012). Bob was a loving husband to Linda, who passed away on 10/19/19 at the age of 82, and a devoted father to 3 daughters: Cynthia, Teresa, and Victoria, and a grandfather to 7: Robert, Jocelyn, Alexis, Richard, Jared, Justin and Luke.
Bob grew up in Canton, Ohio and spent much of his childhood helping out with the family business, The Bremkamp Oil Company. His parents lost their business and family home when Bob was in high school. This had a very big impact on him. He worked multiple jobs in order to help out his family, and to put himself through school. Throughout his college years, Bob was a lifeguard, he was very athletic and a great swimmer. He later taught his daughters to be good swimmers at a young age, and years later also taught a few of his grandchildren how to swim and dive into the pool. He was a trailblazer, he studied Computers at Kent State University from 1954-58 when they were “New” technology and a single computer would take up a whole room. While in College Bob’s friends set him up on a blind date with Linda, and it was love at first sight.
Bob and Linda raised their 3 daughters in Wadsworth, Ohio where they had relatives nearby, many close friends and were very involved both in the community, and in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Bob had a career in computers at the Mohawk Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio for over 20 years.
Linda never liked the cold weather in Ohio and convinced Bob to move to Florida in 1989. Their daughters had already relocated to Florida so it was a perfect transition. Bob was a consultant for Nasa before being hired during the Y2K crisis at Georgia Pacific in Palatka, FL.
Bob and Linda absolutely loved living in Palatka and made many dear friends there. After retiring, Bob and Linda had years of adventures, traveling as often as they could to many places around the world. They were such a good team and enjoyed donating their time to help the Palatka community. Bob was a member of the Kiwanis Club and he and Linda were active members of the St. James United Methodist Church. They loved to sing in the St. James choir, the Redeemers. Bob enjoyed golfing, gardening, volunteering, and studying history, especially WWII. An avid reader, he had an insatiable appetite for learning new things, and believed strongly in the power of positive thinking. His most memorable sayings were “Roll with the Punches”, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff”, and to make sure you have a “Can Do Attitude”. He was a gentle, sweet, caring soul who never had a cross word to say about anyone. He was always ready to jump in and offer a helping hand to a friend or a stranger without hesitation. Bob was a great listener, with a soft spoken, calm, and kind demeanor. He enjoyed throwing out one-liners, explaining complex concepts or math problems, and telling funny and heartwarming stories during family gatherings which would always get his grandkids laughing.
Although he will be deeply missed, Linda and Bob had a true love that was rare, best friends until the end, Bob would say. Us three daughters are smiling knowing they are together again.
