Rizalina's obituary

Lina (Rizalina) Katkus, age 84, passed away on December 10, 2023, peacefully in her sleep. She was preceeded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters. When she was young, Lina worked at the Navel Base in Subic Bay, Philippines for the Yeager Family as a nanny. Lina was sponsored by them to come to the United States in 1974, where she attended McHenry County College in Crystal Lake. John met her at MCC in September of 1975 in biology class. By the 2nd date John knew she was The One. With a courtship and many fond memories, John and Lina were married in August 7, 1976.

Lina was a very outgoing and loving lady who made many friends wherever she went. Lina took a position at Black Dot Corp in Crystal Lake and worked there until her retirement. Her high quality of work was well valued and she made life-long friends. Lina loved to cook, bake, sew, and grow vegetables and flowers in her gardens. Roses were her favorite flower and she had such pride in the knockout rose bush that grew to the second story of the house! Lina had a passion for baking and took Wilton cake decorating classes at Lakehurst Mall. She loved sharing her love of baking, especially treating her coworkers to her great cake making skills. Her cheesecake was heavenly – if you know, you know! Lina’s cake had a reputation and many people were delighted to receive them. At one time she had so many orders she had to enlist Kathryn as her assistant, because her cakes were the best.

Those left to cherish the memory of Lina are her loving husband John, her daughter Kathryn (Chris) Hollister, and the many friends Lina has made.

There will be a memorial service at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (1023 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014) on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 10:00 am. Reverend Moises will be offering the service for Lina. A seperate celebration of life will be held in the spring where we can celebrate her love of the outdoors, food and friends. Please contact the family for further information.

The family requests no flowers at this time.
