Rita Nelson, born in 1973, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023. She is survived by her loving son, Dwayne Nelson, her caring brother, Miko Nelson and her sister Mikki Degraphenreed. Rita was predeceased by her partner, Hubert Vaughan.

Rita graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL in 1991 and went on to receive her degree in Political Science from the University of Florida, Gainesville in 1995. In 1989, she welcomed her beloved son, Dwayne, into the world.

In 2018, Rita moved to Hawaii, a place that would become her favorite vacation spot. She had a penchant for Italian cuisine and enjoyed sipping whiskey as her favorite drink. Rita was an avid reader, with The Bible being her favorite book. She appreciated the music of Kirk Franklin and was a fan of the television show NCIS. The Passion of Christ was her favorite movie, and she found joy in playing poker with friends.

Rita's passions extended beyond her personal interests. She was dedicated to causes such as March of Dimes, and her favorite color was green. Rita's warm, witty, and polite personality touched everyone she met. She often shared the valuable lesson of respecting one's elders with those around her.

Remembered for her kindness and generosity, Rita's legacy will live on through her son, Dwayne, and all who knew her. She will be dearly missed, and her memory will always be treasured by her family, friends, and loved ones.
