Rita's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Rita “GMA” Kuwitzky, who passed away on April 12th, 2025 in Lubbock, TX, at the age of 90. Born on March 19th, 1935, in Georgetown, British Guiana, Rita was known for her strength, loyalty, generosity, quick wit, great cooking, love of golf and her undeniably fun-loving spirit she brought into the world.
Rita will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren, Steve Kuwitzky and his daughter Bethany, Debra Chaffin and her husband Carl and their two daughter’s Callie and MacKenzie as well as her sister, Claudette and nephew’s, Paul and David. Rita’s family consisted of both blood ties and bonds formed during her lifetime. Rita’s reach was as far as it was wide, and she was a great friend to many and was cherished deeply.
Among her most significant accomplishments was her loving marriage to George L Kuwitzky, who proceeded her in death, and raising her two children, whom she held as her pride and joy. She was an independent and intelligent woman, ahead of her times and a force to be reckoned with. She loved a good argument and rarely lost. She was an international woman, growing up in South America, raising her children in London, England and retiring in the States. She was blessed to have traveled the world and experienced many diverse cultures.
Her legacy is one of unyielding strength, good character, hard work, faithfulness to her Lord and generosity in service and spirit. Having grown up poor, her life served as a testament to her philosophy, "You can be a survivor, or you can be a victim.” and “The world moves on, even when we’re not ready."
A Celebration of Life for Rita will take place on May 24th 2025 at 10am at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Anadarko, OK. Rosary on May 23rd, 2025 at 7pm, also at St Patrick's. Those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate her life are welcomed. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local animal shelter would honour Rita’s love of animals.
Rita’s loss is deeply felt by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Her memory will continue to live on and inspire strength, resilience, and generosity in those whose lives she touched.
