Rita's obituary
Rita T. (Hollander) Goldschmidt, a longtime Bloomfield resident, passed away on Monday February 26, 2024, shortly after a gathering of loving family at the Job Haines Home in Bloomfield, NJ. She was 85 years old, and will be missed.
Rita grew up in South Orange, New Jersey, with her parents and brother Stephen. After High School, Rita earned a college degree at Douglas College, Rutgers University. Her son Gary followed in her footsteps at Rutgers, and currently, her granddaughter Lindsey, as a doctorate student at Rutgers…creating a true Rutgers legacy, of which Rita was very proud.
Rita married the love of her life, Steve, in 1962 and arrived in Bloomfield shortly after. Their house in town became the loving home where they raised their children, and eventually, entertained their grandchildren at holidays and for week-long summer staycations.
Rita raised her family as a teacher, allowing her to be home after school for her children. Rita was a consummate educator, all of which stemmed from her passion for teaching special education students. After leaving teaching, Rita worked for the phone company, and then found her late-life passion at State Farm Insurance evaluating medical insurance claims. Rita was obsessed with amassing medical information, including perhaps an unhealthy use of internet searches.
Rita is survived by her three children: Allen (Suzanne), Gary (Gail), and Karen (Joseph). She also had six grandchildren who were a big part of her life: Megan (Mark), Ryan (Allison), Justin, Brian, Lindsey and Jennifer. Rita was also blessed enough to meet her great-grandchildren, Cameron and Ford.
The family would like to thank Rita’s aides and nurses at Job Haines Home in Bloomfield, NJ, for their loving and dedicated service to her.
