Rick's obituary

In Loving Memory of Emil Richard “Rick” Wagenman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Army veteran, and proud Maidu. Rick peacefully departed this world on 12/23/24, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.

Born on 11/03/1948, Rick served his country with honor in the Army, with decorations of national defense service metal and sharpshooter M14. Rick dedicated himself to the values of service and sacrifice. His time in the military shaped the man he became—disciplined, resilient, and deeply committed to the well-being of others.

Above all, Rick was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Karen, with whom he shared a bond built on years of love, respect, and shared adventures. Together, they enjoyed many special moments, from peaceful beach trips to quiet mornings with coffee and conversation. Their love was the foundation of a beautiful family.

Rick was also a proud father to his adult children Ashley and Jeremiah. He leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom, which will be carried on by his 12 adoring grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren—whether telling them stories, playing games, or simply sharing quiet moments together or secretly feeding them candy. His storytelling brought joy and laughter, creating lasting memories for all who were fortunate enough to listen.

In addition to his family, Rick had a passion for collecting "antiques", finding joy in the beauty of the past and the stories each item held. His love for life extended to his friends, with whom he spent many mornings over coffee, sharing stories and camaraderie.

Rick is survived by his wife, Karen , his sister, Shirley, his daughter, Ashley, son, Jeremiah, and his beloved grandchildren. He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, friend Glenn Truitt, and extended family. His presence in their lives will be greatly missed, but his love and spirit will continue to guide and inspire them.

A funeral service will be announced in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to https://everloved.com/life-of… Rick’s honor.

Rest in peace, Rick Your love, strength, and memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know you.

Our Maidu Man

Your Spirit soars like an eagle; your love shines like a star

We will always look to see wherever you are

Your Indian ways; your country music.

Forever to sing a song.

Our sage, our cedar; to pray for the ache in our hearts.

To the creator our prayers.

To the Eagle feather our strength.

In Indian ways our hair was cut; Our spirit broken.

To honor our beloved son: brothers, father and uncle.

When our heart is broken; it will never mend.

When the Eagle soars; A gentle kiss he bestows.

From loving relatives forever, he holds close.

A Redtail Hawk that shines through the shimmering light.

We will look for you forever.

Our Maidu Man
