Rick's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Richard (Rick) Kensic, who was called to his eternal rest on December 25, 2025. Born on June 19, 1944, Rick lived a life defined by laughter, service, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

Rick is survived by his beloved daughter, Christina (Kensic) Palumbo, his son-in-law, John Palumbo, and his treasured granddaughter, Ava Palumbo, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers, Stanley (Stan) Kesic and Dr. Robert (Bob) Kensic; his sister, Diane Ribblett; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Kensic. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Marie Kensic (Fudala); his father, Stanley Kensic; his sister-in-law, Teresa (Terry) Kensic; and his brother-in-law, Greg Ribblett. Rick was followed in death by his beloved wife, Maxine, who passed away on January 15, 2026.

Rick was born in Pennsylvania, moved to Southern California as a teenager and Graduated high school in Downey, California. He later joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1965 . He met the love of his life, Maxine and they married on August 15, 1970.

Rick’s life was one of dedication and service. He proudly served for 27 years with the Los Angeles Police Department retiring as Detective III and also honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Known for his sense of humor, kindness, and resilient spirit, Rick faced life’s challenges with strength and grace. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him, leading by example the importance of commitment to family, community, and country.

Rick found joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially an In-N-Out burger. He loved the outdoors and cherished time spent with his brothers, nephews, and extended family. He was especially proud of his daughter Christina and loved to spend time with his granddaughter, Ava. A licensed pilot, Rick took great pleasure in flying his beloved wife, Maxine, and friends throughout Southern California. Above all, he was a devoted family man whose love and care for his family remained evident until the very end.

Following his distinguished career with the LAPD, Rick held management positions at Reliance Insurance and later led a team of investigators at HP (formerly EDS), where he played a key role in uncovering hundreds of millions of dollars in Medicaid and Medicare fraud.

A memorial service celebrating Rick’s life will be held on January 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Rose Hills Memorial Chapel. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of his life and to honor the profound impact he had on all who knew him.

He will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a man of humor and kindness, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a steadfast supporter of his family and community.
