If you look in the Plainview High School Annual of 1965 you will see that out of a class of 400 students Ricky was chosen for the Laverne Roach Award. That tells the story of the kind of person he is. I pastor a church in San Antonio and got to interacting with Ricky a few years back. He sent me his "Windmill Thoughts" book, which expressed his plain wisdom and integrity. I also interacted with him on spiritual matters and found him to be a sincere believer in Jesus Christ. It is a pleasure to have known Ricky and call him my friend.
I lived only abut 4 blocks Bob and Jo and the kids and went to school with all the boys until 1965 when Ricky and I both Graduated.  I went to play Basketball at Texas A&M, and Ricky went to serve our wonderful Country!  He was my friend, and he was a wonderful man!  May God Bless his sweet Soul, and may he Rest In Peace!
Rick was a special guy. He never met a stranger. We are so lucky that we got to enjoy sharing good times him and Sherry.  So sorry for your loss but know he and your Mom are together.  Love yall!

I remember Uncle Rick always making me laugh, with a twinkle in his eye. He was kind to me, and I loved him. I’m grateful for the gift that he was.

Rick was such a kind man. He did some work with the guys out on some of the farms and they always enjoyed having him. He was a good man and loved you all dearly! Sending love and prayers for your family.

Rick and his family lived close to us for many years.  He was always such a friendly man and so kind to everyone.  We are sorry for the loss his loved ones feel ,but know that they will find comfort knowing he is reunited with Sherry in heaven.  Love and prayers to Julie and Cara and their families.

Rick was a very fun loving individual. During his senior year in high school if they had been keeping records. He would probably be in the Guinness book of world records as the boy that got the most whippings(licks). He and the principal got acquainted real well. He was always goofing off in class and get sent to the office

Rick was a good man and a good brother. I have so many good memories of doing things with him. From cutting firewood for mom and dad on the farm to fishing in Colorado. He served his country in the military during the Vietnam conflict and everywhere he and his wife Sherry lived they helped out in the community and in their church. They tried to teach their children and grandchildren the value of having a relationship with Jesus

One summer a bunch of cousins were at Grandmother and Grandaddy Etheredge’s. Myself and cousin Ray were walking around the back corner of the barn heading towards the pasture. We didn’t see Rick and cousin Redge standing about 15 ft out from the barn. When we came around the corner they threw rocks at a wasp nest up under the overhang of the barn   That nest fell on top of Ray and Me. We got stung a lot around our eyes and they swelled shut so they ( Rick& Redg) had to lead us back to the house. They laughed at us when the wasp were attacking us   But when we got back to the house and truth came out as to how we got stung so much   We got the last laugh when they got busted for the incident.

There were many good times when we were growing up. Some struggles   Like when us boys would run out of something to do and would start fussing at each other dad would have us clean up the back yard and move a pile of bricks he had brought home so he could build a bar-B-Q pit. The pit never got built but those bricks got moved from one side of the yard to the other I don’t know how many times. Then when we complained about cleaning the yard he had us dig up the yard with shovels. Rick didn’t like those days. Rick would quit digging and try to figure out how to get the job done with out so much work rusty and I would have to threaten to whoop him if he didn’t get back to digging

Rick was a very good storyteller. At family gatherings we would get to hear his rendition of a lot of things. We would laugh a lot. One of his funniest stories was about when he was learning how to shoot a compound bow. He and his friend were practicing with the bow so they could go deer hunting. His friend told him to draw the bow string back until his finger tips touched his cheek. He did that and just before he released the arrow his handle bar mustache wrapped around the string. When he released the arrow the handle of his mustache went with it. He hit the ground threw the bow aside and commenced to roll around on the ground holding his lip. His friend asked him what was the matter but when he looked at him with blood running down his face from rapid hair removal his friend knew what had happened. Years later when he had recovered from the incident it became a funny story the way he would act out the telling of that story.
What a delightful man Rick was! We are so happy that we had the privilege of knowing Rick. We know is happily in heaven with his beautiful wife Sherry. Our love to all of his family

Sherry was the first among us to get one of those new dangled microwave ovens. Late one evening Mark got a call from Rick

“You sorry sucker! You told me that I could put a scoop of ice cream on a brownie and put it in that new machine. It would heat up the brownie, but not melt the ice cream! Now I have made a big mess in Sherry’s brand new gadget and she is NOT HAPPY!”
