Richard Tracy Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 9, 2024, in Surprise, Arizona, at the age of 72. Born in Flushing Queens, New York, Richard's journey through life was marked by hard work, resilience, and a profound love for his family.
Richard graduated from Austintown Fitch High School near Youngstown, Ohio. He pursued further education at Devry University, where he studied computer sciences and electronics for two years. Though he did not complete his degree, his passion for learning and technology remained with him throughout his life.
Richard began his career as a carpenter in Ohio, then worked as an exterminator for a brief period before moving into maintenance of apartment complexes and handyman services. Ultimately, he found his calling as a Journeyman electrician, a career he pursued until he became disabled in 2012. He worked on many prestigious projects in Arizona including the Arizona Mills Mall and at the Honeywell gas turbine plant.
In the 1980s, Richard moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he raised his son as a single father. He also spent six enjoyable years in Flagstaff, Arizona, where he and his son appreciated the trees and snow. His interests were diverse and included cooking and baking, woodworking, collecting knives, electronics, and music. He was a man of many talents and passions, known for his strength, his big hugs, his deep laugh, and his friendly demeanor. Richard was a large man with a deep voice and an ever-present smile, finding friends wherever he went.
Richard was preceded in passing by his parents, Helen Tracy and Richard Tracy Sr., and his beloved cat, Boots. He is survived by his son, Nicholas Tracy, and his wife Shelby, along with their children Holly and Haiden. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen Tracy and his brother Al Tracy, as well as his nephews Kevin and Jim. Additionally, Diane Lewis and her husband Howard, who lovingly cared for Richard in his later years, are among those who mourn his passing as well as many others who grew fond of his presence. His cherished cats, Stache and Baby Girl, also survive him.
Richard had a special fondness for the holidays, especially Christmas, when he would dress up as Santa Claus to hand out candy canes, and Halloween, when he delighted in passing out candy to neighborhood children. He made it a point to make these times of the year special for everyone around him.
A celebration of Richard's life is planned for September 29, 2024. He will be cremated and buried at the Paradise Gardens Cemetery in Scottsdale, AZ, alongside his father. A GoFundMe has been set up in his honor to assist with expenses and to support his family during this time.
Richard Tracy Jr. was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by many friends, family, and people whose lives he touched throughout his long life. He endured many hardships and celebrated many joyful times, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness, strength, and love.
