Richard (Steve)'s obituary

Richard Stephen Turner (Steve), age 75, of Marshallville, Ohio, died peacefully on July 25, 2023 at Salt Fork State Park, during a family reunion with his wife by his side.

Steve wished to have no services, but instead would like those who wish to remember him to enjoy a cup of coffee, a piece (or two) of pie, and a good laugh with friends and family.

Steve has donated his body to Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown, Ohio, for teaching purposes and scientific research.

Steve was born on September 22, 1947 and grew up in Beloit, Ohio. He was the son of the late Glenn and Verla (Heacock) Turner. On December 23, 1968, he married Mary Thompson of Sebring.

Steve served as a Corporal with the 82nd Airborne Army Artillery in Viet Nam in 1969. Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1970, he graduated from Tri-State College (now Trine University) in Angola, Indiana.

He owned Canal Street Furniture in Navarre, Ohio, before retiring.

Steve enjoyed his family and visiting with his friends.

Steve is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Gail (George) Ebey of Barberton; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Turner of Wooster, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Lorynn) Turner of Smithville, and Kara Turner of Wooster. He is also survived by his brother, Jim (Ann) Turner of Massillon; in-laws, Martha Thompson (Jim Lucas) of Colorado; Bettie Jean (Steve) Ashbee of Sebring, Ohio; Patricia (Don) Eaton of Sebring; Carl Merritt of Alliance, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his son, Mike, sister Judy, and infant grandson, Douglas.

A celebration of life and sharing of many stories occurred at the 120th Thompson Family Reunion on the day of his death.
