Richard's obituary

Richard Stanley Fox, 72, passed away on October 30th in Albuquerque, NM.

Son of Mary E Gray (Haddow), and Manuel J Fox, he was born April 20, 1951 in Silver City , NM. He graduated Deming High School in 1969 and entered the Navy shortly after, serving proudly during Vietnam, though stationed mainly in Guam. He got his Bachelor's in Business from Mesa Community College in the 80s, and worked in service his entire career, from Montgomery Ward and Big-O Tire, car dealerships to food delivery, usually two to three jobs at once, and most recently #1 Plumbing & Solar, where he truly found a team like family. He retired a couple times, but he was never satisfied with sitting still, so he went back to work and saved for biannual world travels. During his "retirement" years he traveled to Ireland, Paris, London (where he saw the Queen..she was right there!), Rome, Greece and just this September he finally traveled to Egypt! He loved his journeys, exploring historical sites, and meeting interesting people, and I do not doubt that he is exploring the universe right now, because there's nothing like being a stones throw from the wonders of the universe.

He was preceded to heaven by his mother and step-dad, aunts and uncles, and his beloved niece Amanda Gray. He is survived by his Ex-wife and mother of his children, Cynthia Fox of Albuquerque, NM; their children: Rob Moon of Rochester, MN and wife Heidi, Brandi Hurst of Hope, AR and husband Tim, Melissa Frank of Albuquerque, and husband Dan; Nine grandchildren: Josiah Hurst, Miriam Hurst, Allibeth Frank, Abigail Hurst, Caleb Moon, Jacob Frank, Nathaniel Hurst, Cody Frank, and Liliana Chavez; sisters Lorraine Northington of Albuquerque, NM and Phyllis Reeves of Amarillo, TX; brother Cliff Gray of Deming, NM as well as many, many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Richard was a deeply beloved father, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected but quick, just like he always hoped it would be.

While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others, and even a glorious pain in the neck, to what I'm sure is a small select few (because no matter what happened between you in your lives, once you were marked as important to him, he'd be by your side if you needed him). There was so much more to him than just dad, though to us that was his greatest roll - he was also a friend, a coworker and colleague, a cousin, brother, stand-in paternal figure to the fatherless, a handyman, artist, garden designer, the list goes on and on.

We invite you all to share pictures or memories. It was his wish that we laugh and reminisce, and smile together during this time.
