Richard's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Sliter, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on March 11, 2025, at the age of 54, after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was born on March 18, 1970, in Oil City, Pennsylvania.
Richard was a man of many talents and interests. He found joy in canoeing, fishing, hunting, and spending countless hours under the open sky, where he felt most at home. His passion for nature was mirrored in his love for art, which allowed him to express his creative spirit. Richard was also known for his tinkering; he had a knack for turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.
More than just hobbies, these activities reflected his zest for life. He was an avid outdoorsman who cherished every moment spent in nature, and he often shared these experiences with his family, teaching them the importance of appreciating the beauty around them.
Richard was not only a devoted family man but also a source of joy and laughter to all who knew him. He loved to tell jokes, often leaving those around him with a smile or a hearty laugh. His infectious sense of humor was a bright light in the lives of his friends and family, and he had a unique ability to lift spirits, no matter the circumstances.
He is survived by his cherished children, Kacey Gardner (Dustin), and Christopher King, who will forever carry his legacy in their hearts. Richard was also a proud grandfather to Hannah and Myla who brought him immense joy and a sense of purpose. He often spoke of the laughter and love that filled his life because of them.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving mother, Vernie, his beloved wife, Viola, and his sister, Lorraine. Their memories live on in the stories he shared and the love he imparted to his family.
Richard’s journey was marked not just by the challenges he faced but also by the warmth and joy he shared with everyone he met. His unwavering spirit and love for life will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life will be held to celebrate Richard, where family and friends can gather to share their favorite memories and honor the wonderful man he was.
Though Richard may no longer walk among us, his spirit will live on in the laughter he shared, the memories he created, and the love he instilled in those he cherished. Rest in peace, Richard Sliter; you have left an indelible mark on our hearts.
