Rick's obituary
Rick passed away on July 23, 2025, in Zillah, Washington, just days before his 70th birthday and 12 days after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Rick was born on July 29, 1955, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Richard 'Dick' Sr. and Ione Schneider. At two months old, Rick moved with his parents and older sisters Jean and Ruth to Washington State. Rick grew up in Edmonds and had many fond memories of his adventures growing up. Whether it was the Boy Scouts, the World's Fair, berry picking, collecting bottles to buy candy, waking up early to have 'coffee milk' with his sisters, or flying in his favorite neighbors the Mendenhall's airplane, Rick had an adventurous boyhood.
As a teenager Rick moved to the Yakima Valley with his dad, thus beginning his long career as a skilled carpenter. Rick was a proud Union Carpenter, a skill that took him around the state to various projects.
Rick met Brenda (Nobbs) when she was working at her uncles' market. They married and welcomed 2 daughters, Bethany and Katelyn. As he said his girls were the best thing he'd been given. Dad loved helping with math homework, coaching our basketball teams, helping with any building project for school, and he never missed a single event his girls had, he was at every single game, play, or band concert.
As much as Rick loved being a dad, being a Papa was his most favorite. His 4 grand babies were so greatly loved by him. He also loved any opportunity when he was able to work next to his son in laws and share his years of carpentry experience with them.
Rick was a true patriot and loved our country, instilling in his girls from a young age to stand for the flag and respect our country. Rick was involved in the local Republican Party. He grew a great love for politics in retirement and greatly enjoyed talking and debating it any opportunity he got. Rick was a proud member of the Flashpoint Army.
Rick attended Breakthrough Church and was baptized this last Easter. It was a very monumental moment for Rick; God was doing a heart change in his life. Rick was very tender hearted for the Lord and was not afraid to share his faith with anyone. His last few weeks in and out of the hospital were spent with him sharing with anyone he could about The Chosen and how he knew God was with him in this journey and was going to heal him. He loved listening to the Word be read and found great peace in prayer and Gods promises in the Bible. God has restored Rick to wholeness and we have the hope of knowing we will see him again.
Rick is preceded in death by two infant siblings, Mary and Lonnie, mother Ione, father Dick, and father-in-law Jim Nobbs. He is survived by his wife Brenda, daughters Bethany (Chad) Ferguson and Katelyn (Todd) Ferguson, grandchildren Sawyer, Parker, Aven Joy, and Savannah Ferguson, sisters Jean O'Connor and Ruth (Bob) Schoonhoven, mother-in-law Joyce (Darrell) Nobbs-Buell, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins in Minnesota, numerous brothers and sisters in law, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Our family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of those who have supported us during this time of loss.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalms 23:1-6
