Richard's obituary
The Piller family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Richard Walter Piller, 77 of Palm Coast, Florida on September 24, 2022. He fought a brave and courageous battle with cancer. At his request, a private celebration of life and oceanside ash scattering will be held 7/22/2023.
Richard is survived by his son, Bryan Piller (Jackie) of Norfolk, MA, his Aunt Edna Fercho, FL, and his four grandchildren; Meghan, Jack, Sean, and Molly. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Walter Piller, mother, Theresa Fercho Piller, and his brother Ronnie.
Richard was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Richard’s love of the ocean began at the Jersey shore. He enjoyed many fond memories there with his son, Bryan. He realized a lifelong dream of sailing the Mediterranean. He spent most of his adult life and career in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Richard had a successful career in gear grinding and industrial machine sales. He was a business owner at several points in his life as well. He captained boats. He also owned and personally restored a storied bed and breakfast, The Frost Hill Gallery Inn in York, ME.
He was a wonderful father and grandfather. He regularly attended his grandchildren’s special occasions and sports events with great interest and passion. He was especially thrilled to be able to watch both of his grandsons, Jack and Sean compete in their high school football championships; for a total of 3 times in Gillette Stadium.
He was an avid traveler who enjoyed the best of adventure on the slopes and on the sea. He was most at home on the water where he captained many boats. His son, Bryan was able to spend his last days with him and fulfill one of his last requests of having his feet in the water at Flagler Beach on a beautiful Florida morning.
The Piller family would like to extend a special thank you to the people at AdventHealth Hospice in Palm Coast, Florida for their loving care and support during his final days.
