Richard was born August 28, 1936, in Henderson, Nebraska, to George and Anna (Hiebert) Peters. He was raised there and graduated from Aurora High School in 1955. Richard married Loretta Jane Peters on October 6, 1956, and the couple moved to Van Nuys, CA, in 1957, and Richard worked for Veterans Affairs Hospital until they moved to Delano in 1960. Richard worked for Anton Caratan and Son of Delano. He moved to Bakersfield in 1999. Richard passed away June 30, 2003, after a battle with the terminal illness, Cancer. He also suffered from complications due to stroke and a broken heart.

Richard enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends in Nebraska. He was an active member of the Heritage Bible Church in Bakersfield. He had just returned from a short mission trip to the Ukraine, when he became ill. Along with traveling he also enjoyed flying model planes and flying his own airplane. He also enjoyed photography as a hobby.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta, who passed away on May 30, 1999; his parents and sister. He is survived by his sons, David Peters who is serving in the U.S. Air Force and is stationed in Aviano, Italy and his wife, Brenda, Dwight Peters of Boise, Idaho; brothers, Marvin of Henderson, Nebraska and Larry of Livonia, Michigan. He adored his three grandchildren, Alyssa, Kira and Elizabeth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Bakersfield Rescue Mission or MCC in care of Heritage Bible Church or American Cancer Society.
