Richard's obituary
Richard Allen Nissen, age 57, of Woodbury, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2026, at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 15, at the Durant Community Center from 4-7.
Rich was born July 16, 1968, the son of Dennis and Carol (Ohrt) Nissen. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School with the class of 1986. Following graduation, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Northern Iowa, where he met his wife, Renee Timmerman. They were united in marriage on May 23, 1992, in Tipton, Iowa.
Rich had a deep appreciation for working with his hands and expressing his creativity. He especially enjoyed woodworking and fishing; he was happiest up at the cabin on the lake in Wisconsin. Rich had a remarkable ability to take any idea and mentally shape it into something and then bring it to life with skill and precision. Whether building, fixing, or creating; he was known for being incredibly handy and resourceful. But most of all, Rich enjoyed being papa to his grandchildren.
Rich will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Renee; his daughter, Melanie (Wyatt) Peiffer; and his son, Matthew (Morgan) Nissen, all of Carver, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Layton, Nolan, and Addison; his parents, Dennis and Carol Nissen of Luck, Wisconsin; his sister, Rebecca Nissen of Luck, Wisconsin; his brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Denise Timmerman, and his nieces and nephew and families. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and mother-in-law.
Rich will be remembered for his creativity, generosity, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the many things he built, the lives he touched, and the memories shared with those who knew him.
In remembrance of Rich’s life, the family asks that memorials be made to Iowa Donor Network or Get Up Stand Up to cure paralysis.
