Richard's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Montoya, who left us on August 12, 2025. Born on December 4, 1986, Richard lived a vibrant, colorful life, filled with laughter, love, and a fierce commitment to his community.
He is remembered fondly by his son, Brandon Rodriguez-Montoya, and grandsons, Legend and Jacob Rodriguez-Montoya. Richard's expansive family also mourns his loss, including his brother, Ronnie Montoya, nieces Leandra and Kandice Montoya, Nephew Rudy Jr. Cordova, Aunt Mona Trujillo, and his many uncles and aunts. His daughter-in-law, Anncely Rodriguez-Montoya, and numerous cousins also hold Richard close in their hearts.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, Joann Trujillo and Rudy Montoya, and his uncles Leroy and Danny Trujillo. His cherished grandparents Leocadia and Cladio Trujillo, and Eulgio and Esmiria Montoya, and his sister-in-law, Ernestine Velarde, were there to welcome him to the next stage of existence.
Richard was a man of many passions. He loved books, with "Law of Attraction" and "The Secret" among his favorites. An avid fan of WWE, he enjoyed watching the wrestling performances as much as he did playing Monopoly and Miniature Golf. Richard had a flair for life, often described as funny, outgoing, caring, and the life of the party. He was a beacon of compassion and was especially engaged with causes related to the LGBTQ community.
Richard loved his community and could often be seen at local spots like club 254 and Ruth Chris Steaks. His favorite pastimes included spending time with his partner Justin and friends, as well as working at club 254. Richard found joy in the small things, like his favorite color purple, his love for the music of Cher, or savoring a good wine.
Richard was not just a man of joy, but also of wisdom. One of his best-shared lessons was "Yesterday is gone, we can only control what we do today," a sentiment that reflected his positive, live-in-the-moment outlook.
A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held on August 31, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Harvey Park. Those who knew and loved Richard are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a life beautifully lived.
