Rick's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" Minicelli, who left us on March 3, 2026. Born on January 29, 1951, Rick was widely known for his fun, loving, and vibrant personality that made him a joy to be around.

Rick spent his earlier years in Lawrence, MS, before moving to San Jose, CA, in 1952. He began working at the San Jose Mercury News in 1969 and continued to make his living there until his retirement in 2007. In 1980, Rick took on the endeavor of becoming the owner of the local Tropical Fish & Bird Store, "Davy Jones Locker". These life changes were marked by his adventurous spirit and dedication to providing for his loved ones.

In 1970, he married the love of his life, Cynthia Minicelli. Together, they raised two daughters, Shay Aragon and Tammy Minicelli. Rick was also a beloved father-in-law to Paul Aragon. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to his granddaughters, Chrystal Aragon, Sara Minicelli-Aragon, and Emily Aragon.

He leaves behind his wife, daughters, son-in-law, granddaughters, and brother, Johnny Minicelli. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and John Minicelli. Rick's passing has created a void in their lives that can never be filled. His joyous spirit, laughter, and wise life lessons will forever be remembered and cherished by his family.

Rick had a passion for cars, especially fast ones, and was a motorcycle enthusiast since the age of 15. The thrilling sound of engines was only surpassed by his love for music - Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Eddie Money, Huey Lewis and the News, Billy Joel being among his favorites. An ice-cold Pepsi was often his beverage of choice during these listening sessions.

Rick's legacy is one of undying love and the strong influence he had as a role model and advice giver. He was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His greatest accomplishment, in his eyes, was being the best family man he possibly could. His love and dedication for his family are what defined him, and the love they carry for him will keep his memory alive.

Rick retired and moved to Valley Springs, CA, in 2011, where he continued to touch lives and spread joy. He will be profoundly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Our hearts are filled with his memories, and we will continue to honor his legacy by living our lives with the same zest and love that he did.
