Richard's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Sawyers, who left us peacefully on September 18, 2025. He was born on May 25, 1939, and lived a life full of warmth and love. Richard, a beloved man whose personality was such that he never met a stranger, had a unique ability to strike up a conversation with anyone that was around him. His contagious charm made him known and loved, far and wide, to the extent that his presence was felt even outside his home state during vacations.
Richard was the proud graduate of Frederick Sasser high school, Class of 1959. He was an active attendee of Cedar Grove Methodist Church, enriching the spiritual life of the congregation with his faith and devotion. He was also an esteemed volunteer at the Deale Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, proving himself as a dedicated member of his local community.
His favorite pastimes reflected his traditional personality, a penchant for county music and Western films. He also had a deep love for game shows. Richard's favorite local spot was the Deale Fire Department, a place he devoted much of his time and energy. He also loved being at home in Deale, which he considered his favorite vacation spot. Richard cherished spending time with his family and helping friends, these were the activities that brought him the most joy and satisfaction. He was passionate about his beloved dog, BudBud, and loved tinkering in his shop.
Richard was the loving husband of Martha Sawyers and the proud father of Michelle Wobbe, Michael Sawyers, and Marty Sawyers. A family man at heart, Richard cherished every moment he spent with his loved ones. He was predeceased by his father, Clyde Sawyers, his mother, Margaret Sawyers, his brother Jack Sawyers, and his sisters, Barbara Sawyers and Mary Farr. His memory will be honoured and kept alive by those who survive him.
We remember Richard as a man full of life and love, whose zest for life was inspirational. We mourn his loss but celebrate the wonderful life he lived, knowing that he has found peace at last. We will miss you, Richard. May you rest in peace.
