Rick's obituary
It is with profound sadness to share the passing of Richard “Rick” Mendenhall, a pillar of love and support to his family and friends, who left us on December 1, 2024 at the age of 62.
Rick's childhood was marked by adventure and adaptability, as his family moved frequently due to his father's career with Campbell Soup, Swanson Division. These experiences allowed Rick to explore new places, form lasting friendships wherever he went, and develop a deep appreciation for the diversity of people and cultures he encountered. Rick’s travels in his childhood shaped his continual desire as an adult to travel and experience new places as much as he could.
Rick was a proud alumnus of the University of Arkansas, where he earned a degree in journalism. During his time at university, he discovered his love for sports reporting when contributing as a writer for the university paper. This role not only showcased his talent for storytelling but also sparked a lifelong passion for sports—both collegiate and professional. Rick remained an avid supporter of the Razorbacks and cherished the camaraderie of game days.
While Rick’s love for storytelling and sports never waned, he found a new calling in building business relationships through client services. With his natural charisma and genuine interest in people, he forged lasting connections that became the cornerstone of his professional success and personal fulfillment.
Rick was a man of boundless generosity and love, always showing a genuine interest in the lives of those around him. He had a gift for making people feel seen and valued, offering his support whenever and wherever it was needed. Whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or simply his unwavering presence, Rick touched countless lives and left a legacy of compassion and care.
Rick is survived by his wife, Margaret “Meg” Orlandi, his parents William and Joan (Radosta) Mendenhall, and his brother James Mendenhall. He is also fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews; Austin and Laura (Kiehlbauch) Mendenhall, Elizabeth (Mendenhall) and Cody Cochran, Chelsea (Mendenhall) and Dee Horner, Jasmine Cochran, and Thaddeus Mendenhall, and also extended family members whom he was exceptionally close to who all held a special place in his heart.
Rick's memorial service and reception will be held on January 25, 2025 at 12pm CT at: Sequoyah United Methodist Church, 1910 N Old Wire Rd., Fayetteville, AR 72703.
