Richard's obituary
Richard Edward Melendres passed away peacefully at the age of 82 after a period of declining health, surrounded by his immediate family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family.
Born on July 18th, 1943, in Los Angeles, Richard attended Cathedral High School and maintained a strong connection to his faith, serving as an altar boy in his youth and later as a church usher.
Richard spent his entire career at AAA Insurance, working in both sales and management. After retiring, he continued working at Angel Stadium and the Honda Center. He proudly served in the National Guard.
Richard was a passionate sports fan, especially devoted to his Rams, and took great pride in attending his grandsons' activities.. He was thrilled to watch Paul Melendrez play football and was equally proud of Gabriel Melendrez's achievements in music.
In addition to his love for sports and family, Richard was deeply committed to his children’s education. He volunteered at their school, serving as the booster president and actively engaging with the school community.
Richard was also a gifted storyteller, delighting in sharing countless anecdotes from his youth and recounting the mischief and adventures of his “heyday,” bringing laughter and fond memories to those around him.
He was deeply devoted to his wife, Lynda Melendres, who battled diabetes. He cared for her throughout her long struggle. He was a loving father to his son, Anthony Melendrez, and his daughter, Jennifer Melendres, and a very proud grandfather to Gabriel Melendrez and Paul Melendrez.
In his final year, Richard’s health declined due to heart disease. Even as his strength and mobility diminished, he remained engaged with those around him and appreciated time spent with family.
Richard is survived by his brother, Art Melendres, his sister, Marty Melendres, his children, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife.
A funeral service will be held on January 27th at 10:15 AM at St. Bruno’s Catholic Church.
