Karla & Mrs. McPherson, I know the absence of Mr. Richard will be felt in every corner of your lives. Meeting Merlus Sims led me to meeting Richard McPherson. My relationship with Richard led me from the streets of Savannah to the city of Atlanta. When I accepted a position with Urban League, Richard and Narvis welcomed me to stay with them until my place was ready. Richard and I solved the world’s problems, played cards, told the best jokes and ate at great restaurants. When Karla was a toddler, she would wake up in the morning and call me “Man”😁. She would say, “hey man” until I answered her. Meeting the one  and only Pulitzer Prize winning James McPherson was a delightful experience. Through the years, our families were there for weddings, funerals, birthdays and family gatherings. Richard was the best cook and fix it man I knew. I can go on and on about Richard’s  gentle spirit, kindness, quotes and funny jokes, but now it’s time to say please God grant Richard eternal life and give peace and consolation to all who loved and knew him.
