Richard's obituary

Richard McNair, age 31, passed away tragically in a single-vehicle accident on July 3, 2025. Born on December 15, 1993, Richard was a devoted son, big brother, uncle, friend, and dog dad to his beloved companion, Annie.

Richard found great satisfaction and pride in welding, a craft he truly loved. His skill, tireless work ethic, and positive spirit earned him the respect of everyone he worked with. Among his family of co-workers, Richard was admired not just for his talent but for the way he lifted the morale of those around him. He was known to show up, step up, and support others whenever they needed it.

In addition to his work, Richard was a true outdoorsman and explorer at heart. He spent all of his free time experiencing all the wild had to offer with his co-wanderer, Annie, finding joy in wide open spaces and the quiet beauty of the great outdoors of the U.S. He traveled extensively across the country, having visited all 48 of the continental states. He gravitated toward the most remote places he could reach, always chasing the best views and the quiet that came with them. Richard often shared the road with his mother, Kathy, bonding over their mutual love of travel and the experiences they collected along the way. He found peace under big skies, and though he had a hard time choosing favorites, he loved too many places to name just one.

Richard was as bold as he was big-hearted. He was the kind of man who would do anything for anyone—“just that kind of guy.” He loved deeply and played hard—the harder, the better. Kind, compassionate, occasionally hard-headed, and always 420-loving, he lived with a fiery spirit and unwavering loyalty to those he cared about.

He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Bapst; father, William Ed McNair, two sisters, Rachel Romero (Juan) and Emily Vicente (Tripp); and his faithful dog and best friend, Annie. He also leaves behind a large extended family of friends, fellow tradesmen, and loved ones whose lives he impacted with his laughter, grit, and generous soul.

Richard will be missed beyond words and remembered always for the way he lived—fiercely, freely, and full of heart.
