Rick's obituary
Richard (Rick) Leroy Gipson Jr., born on April 22, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose life was marked by love, commitment, and service.
Rick graduated from Southport High School in 1965 and later from Ball State University in 1971, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. His professional journey included careers in sales and ministry, reflecting his dedication to connecting with and helping others. Rick proudly served in the Coast Guard, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his country.
In retirement, Rick embraced a life full of passions and hobbies. He was an enthusiastic fisherman, enjoyed time at the shooting range, loved playing golf, and had a penchant for travel. Above all, he found joy in spending time with his family and grandchildren. His care for his property was a testament to his appreciation for nature and the outdoors.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Claudia Gipson (Cotton), and his children: Jason Tait Gipson and his wife, Karie Gipson (Shelton); Alysa Shay Gipson; and Oliver Bryce Gipson and his wife, Valerie Gipson (Golson). He was a proud grandfather to Eva Tarvin (Gipson) and her husband, Kyle Tarvin; Sofia Gipson and her partner, Noah Knuckles; Lilia Gipson; Henry Gipson; Hazel Gipson; Jagger Gipson; Pearl Gipson; and Radley Jett Gipson. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Iris Tarvin, Wesly Tarvin, and Ace Knuckles. Rick is also survived by his two siblings, Jerrie Peters (Gipson) and her husband, James Peters; and Kittredge Gipson and his wife, Janet Gipson.
Rick’s life was a tapestry of kindness, adventure, and devotion to his family and ministry. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.
