LYNN - On the morning of May 19, 2016, Richard Knapp passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston at the age of 66 due to health complications. He was born in Everett on Nov. 29, 1949, to Charles F. Knapp III and Roberta A. Knapp (Winn). Beloved husband of Karen C. Knapp (Adams). Loving father of Joshua, John, Richard, Joanne, and Robert. Cherished grandfather of John, Gianna, Aiden, and Lennon. Richard served in the Navy from 1969 to 1975. Richard was assigned to the USS Kansas City (AOR-3) in the Pacific during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (2 Stars), the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Metal. When Richard was a student at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston, he started a business in the HVAC & R industry. After he earned his Associates Degree from BFIT, he had a successful lifelong career as an HVAC&R technician. Richard is greatly missed by his family. He was a provider, mentor, teacher, and protector. He inspired people and was an exemplary role model to those who knew him. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
