Richard's obituary
Richard Lawrence Kellison passed away on March 15, 2026, in Redding, California, following unexpected heart failure.
To know Richard was to know a life full of adventure. Whether you knew him for many years or only a short time, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He embraced life fully, traveling throughout much of the United States and creating meaningful connections along the way.
His siblings were his lifelong support and closest companions; their bond was unbreakable, and he cherished being their big brother every day of his life. Texas held a special place in his heart from the years he lived there, and he returned often to visit his daughters and grandchildren, whom he loved deeply.
Richard also shared a deep and devoted bond with his Mother. He loved her dearly and spent many years by her side, offering care, companionship and unwavering support. That time together was especially meaningful to him and reflected the depth of his loyalty and love for his family.
Wherever Richard went, he built friendships that felt like family. He had a gift for bringing energy and laughter into every gathering, and each visit with him was memorable. He lived with a sense of curiosity and spontaneity, never knowing what each day might bring—and embracing that fully.
Richard found joy in the simple and meaningful moments: early mornings over breakfast, restoring boats, fishing, swimming in local waters, and sharing meals with those he loved. Above all, he took pride in being there for family and friends whenever they needed him.
In his final days, he reflected, “90% of the time, I was happy to be here.” His life was truly rare and extraordinary in its own way, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his Mother, Margaret Kellison; Daughters, Aliethia Dean and Rebecca Wadley; his Sister, Carol Copeland and Family; his Brother, Bart Kellison and Family; and his Sister, Theresa Coolbaugh and Family. He is also survived by his Grandchildren, David Dean, Ryan Dean and Family, Brad Dean, Lexi Sorenson and family, and Tyler Montes; as well as his sons-in-law, Jack Dean and Roy Wadley.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Denver, Colorado, on July 25, 2026. The location is TBD as soon as possible.
