RICHARD ARTHUR HIRTER
Richard Hirter (73) passed away on January 4th 2025 in Downey, California of natural causes. He was born on July 23, 1951 to parents Art and Eileen Hirter of Portland, Oregon. He was the third child of three with two older sisters, Diana (Hirter) Massarotti of Los Angeles, CA and Sandra (Hirter) Baker of Wadsworth, OH.
Richard grew up in N.E. Portland, OR and attended Madison High School class of 1969. After high school Rich pursued his fascination with all things medical by working at Providence Hospital in their dietary nutrition center. He graduated in 1974 from Portland Community College with an A.A.S. in Radiologic Technology, he continued his education at Portland State University, and began his career as a Radiologic Technician in 1975. Working at various hospitals and clinics throughout the Portland area, he performed CT, radiography and fluoroscopic exams at the following medical centers: Eastmoreland General Hospital (1975-1983); Mount Hood Medical Center (1981-1989); Woodland Park Hospital (1989-1990).
After moving to Connecticut he got his certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from Yale-New Haven Hospital School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 1993. He continued his career at the following: CONNCARE Inc – Gales Ferry, CT (1989-1990); Seaport Medical Center – Mystic, CT (1994-1995); ALTAMED - Manassas, VA (1994-1995).
In Southern California he worked at the following: Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center (1998-1999); Queen of Angeles Hospital – Los Angeles (1999-2005); Coast Plaza Hospital – Norwalk, CA (1999-2020).
Richard is survived by his sisters Diana and Sandra, his sons Michael R. Hirter of Vancouver, WA, and James Hirter of Seabeck, WA, his daughters Leslie (Hirter) Stevens of Silverdale, WA, and Beth Hirter of Seabeck, WA.
