My sincere condolences to Rich's family. He was a unique, thoughtful, and inspiring person.
One thing I loved about him was his enthusiasm for music and live shows. He wanted to go to the concerts where the artist might have a certain kind of raw spark. With that perspective, he was usually more impressed with the uknown opening band than the headlining artist. He would find little details in a song that he admired above other, more obvious things. He'd notice if the guitarist made small changes to the guitar line when repeating a verse, so as to keep the song interesting and evolving.
He had a valuable perspective on many things, and was a calming and steady presence. These are just some of the reaons why I liked to be around Rich. I will miss him dearly.
I worked night crew with Rich for many years, every night when I walked in to the lunchroom to get ready for my shift there would be a word written on the blackboard and a dictionary lying on the table with a page marked for the word written on the board. Rich did this. He said it was so everyone could improve there vocabulary. This is one of the ways Rich was a positive influence on many people.
